The Hosokawa Mixing Sensor allows continuous insight in the homogeneity of a mixture without interrupting the mixing process to take samples. This results in a clear picture of the quality of the mixture and allows the operator to determine the optimum mixing time. As a result there is no loss of production time and the chance of under and/or over-mixing is minimized.

The Hosokawa Mixing Sensor is just as simple as it is efficient. Through an eye (diameter 25 millimeters) integrated in the mixer wall, light is emitted on the mixture that is continuously passing the eye. By measuring the light reflection, data is continuously obtained about the composition of the mixture. The light measures particle size, color, density and roughness. This information is immediately shown on the display and the sensor can operate as a stand alone or be connected to a remote monitoring system or computer.

Since the mixture is continuously monitored, it will become immediately clear when a homogenous mixture is obtained. Over-mixing and the chance of damaging or segregating the mixture are reduced. Under-mixing due to change in raw material (supplier differences, particle size, moisture, etc.) will be taken in account by the Sensor. Apart from the fact that an optimal homogeneous mixture is obtained and guaranteed, it often also results in saving mixing time.

The earlier we know when the desired mixing quality is reached, the earlier we may go ahead with further processing. It enables operators to monitor and control product quality during the production process. It also reduces laboratory analysis time and the risk of off-specification products.
