Polymers – PP, HDPE, PC, PVC, TPU, PA, PEEK, LCP, EVA, PS & more

Plastics and other types of polymers are often soft and elastic materials that do not respond well to impact milling. These heat sensitive solids soften, smear or melt if mechanically milled ambiently, leaving cryogenic size reduction as the only option. However, another method indeed exists.
The Mikro® UMP Attrition Mill is a high speed cutting mill designed for the fine size reduction of plastics, polymers and fibrous materials that do not respond well to other forms of impact milling. The UMP Attrition Mill is designed to grind heat sensitive and soft materials without the need for liquid nitrogen or chilled air. When coupled in circuit with a Hosokawa Air Classifier, size reduction as low as D97 < 75 µm is achievable. The mill is available from lab to production sizes up to 60 HP. Size reduction capability to D97 in the 200 to 500 µm range when coupled with a screener. Capable of ultra-fine milling to D97 <75 µm when coupled with a Hosokawa Classifier in closed-loop milling circuit.
