Mikro ACM® Air Classifying Mills were invented by HMPS in the late 1960’s and are one of the most versatile types of size reduction equipment available in the market. These units while being capable of producing fine, medium and coarse grinds for a wide variety of materials for Food, Pharmaceutical, Chemical and Mineral industries, require very little maintenance over their life span. The basic design of these mills is the impact size reduction that is coupled with an internal dynamic classifier which controls the outlet (product) particle size via recirculating the coarse particles back into the grinding zone.

There are seven main factors which determine particle size distribution for the Mikro ACM® Air Classifying Mill. When varied, the rotor type and speed combined with the liner and hammer count affects the production of fines. The separator type and speed affects the top size of the product. And lastly, the airflow governs the throughput as well as top size and fines generation. With the endless available options a machine can be configured to process just about any material that is below MOH’s hardness of 5.

Their design provides for a very gentle mixing action with low horsepower consumption. The special mixing action ensures a very homogenous mixture and short mixing times. The conical vessel design allows a wide range of filling capacities and the mass flow characteristic design minimizes segregation upon discharge. Because there are no horizontal internal surfaces, products are completely discharged, minimizing product loss and providing for easy cleaning. Vessels can be designed for overpressure and under pressure operating conditions and units can be supplied with a variety of accessories including liquid injection, product samplers, high intensity lump breakers, level and temperature probes, load cells for batch weighing and jackets for heating and cooling are some examples. Nuclear Power

Nuclear is a huge growth industry, not least because it offers a zero emissions solution for producing continually available energy in the form of electricity.

Offering a wealth of first-hand expertise in safety-critical, hazardous and arduous process applications, Hosokawa Micron Group is adept at collaborating with its nuclear industry customers to deliver everything from tailor-made, technology-packed standalone equipment to integrated process systems that safely and effectively meet the very specific, complex challenges and requirements demanded by this very specialist sector. Every project we are trusted to undertake for the nuclear industry is unique and requires a bespoke solution.

The Hosokawa Group is a trusted and reliable partner with a proven track record within the nuclear and associated industries. We offer process equipment for nuclear fuel (MOX), reprocessing plutonium and depleted uranium, drying and immobilization of contaminated materials.

Mixing Nuclear Materials

The Nauta® conical screw mixer has proven its usefulness in the production of nuclear fuel. It can be used for mixing uranium oxides, for mixing plutonium (recovered from used reactor fuel) with depleted uranium in the manufacturing of mixed oxide (MOX) fuel and also for the reprocessing of weapons-grade plutonium (from military sources) to manufacture nuclear fuel rods for the production of electricity.

Drying & Immobilization of Contaminated Materials

The Nauta® vacuum dryer can be used to increase the dry mass content of wash liquids. It is also suitable for drying (low) contaminated materials prior to immobilization for long term waste storage.

The immobilization process can be performed using a Flexomix mixer/agglomerator. It mixes a solidifying mixture with contaminated wet nuclear material and water.

Size Reduction, Compaction, & Containment

Besides mixing, drying and agglomeration equipment, the Hosokawa Group can also supply size reduction and compaction equipment and containment solutions for the processing and of handling hazardous materials.

Hosokawa Micron offers process equipment and technologies from individual modular concept units to large scale bespoke system solutions. Our principle is to deliver high performance yet affordable solutions that meet our customers’ demands and long term challenges. Contact us today to learn more.
